Lyle Forever, after building a massive online audience as the Therapy Gecko, was once staring at his Instagram wondering what to post that would please the algorithm and deliver him the sweet dopamine release of internet likes. After much futile pondering, he decided to put a middle finger to the algorithm, to the stress, and to any expectations, and just posted some trash from around his room. The trash coincidentally performed well and felt more honest than anything else he would have posted, leading to a new kind of dopamine release. So he made it a tradition to post random trash and objects whenever he felt frustrated by an obligation to please an algorithm. Trash From Around My Room is this tradition brought into the real world. In a sense, the work is an expression of being bound by nothing except whatever you find interesting in the moment. He also thought it would be funny.
